PLEATED SKIRTS, A TREND

She’s done it again!

I promise when I set out to write these posts, I had no intention of documenting Meghan Markle’s greatest hits. But when she is (in my opinion) one of the most fashionable people either side of the Atlantic, well, it’s hard not to! A few weeks ago The Duchess stunned (again) in the pleated ensemble! Some say it’s a skirt, others are saying it’s a dress from Club Monaco, but either way it’s trendy, amazing, and totally achievable!

When I was doing my research and heard that pleated skirts were going to be huge in Fall/Winter of 2018, I doubted it’s validity. But a few weeks ago I started seeing them everywhere! And as much as I was unsure of their styling capabilities, I’m actually loving them!! Not only are there so many different styles/colors/patterns out there, but the casual to fancy spectrum they live on? Amazing!

I love this color block version Meghan Markle is wearing in the gallery above, and pairing it with a simple, solid blouse like hers is the perfect pairing! Fall would be a great time of year to pair a color block or patterned skirt with a simple sweater. But if you’re not a fan of the color block or patterns? Finding a staple solid color is still a great way to go and could be worn so many more ways!

What’s great about these trends is that you can find them pretty much anywhere! Most of the skirts in the boutique below are $100 or (way) less! From places like Asos, H&M, even Forever21! I suggest looking at places like this instea of the more expensive shops for trends, especially if you’re not sure how much you’re going to like it! That way if you don’t end up wearing it a ton, you haven’t invested too much into that piece.

I am partial to the first look, the nude skirt and neutral sweater/sweatshirt with tennis shoes. There is something so casual/sporty/flirty about this look it just hits every box that I would want it to! Who knew a coffee date could look so good :-/

Take a look at all of these skirt choices below! Wide range of prices, colors, and palettes, but all a great way to incorporate this trend into your fall wardrobe!

SPRING TRENDS: FRINGE

One of the hottest trends this season is not only cute, but fun!

Keegan_3.21.18-258.jpg

Fringe is coming back and coming back strong! At first I wasn’t sure how it would appear in the market or if I would like it at all. But what I have learned these days is that you should never underestimate the power of the product designers!

There are so many choices on the market right now to stay trendy. And it comes in so many different styles too! You can find something a little more obvious like this skirt, or maybe a cute sweater that has just a little detail on the sleeve? Or a cute summery wrap dress with fringe tassels along the hem to include in your suitcase on your next vacation? Or if you want to really reach for the trend, there are some cool leather and suede jackets with fringe detail on the sleeve and back as well! If I was cooler, I would totally rock one of those bad boys!

But what’s so great about this trend is the texture it gives to your outfit. The detail and styling of your outfit is pretty much done with a piece like this skirt. I paired it with a cute graphic tee and some cute black booties for a bit of a night-out, cool, rocker vibe! But also casual with the graphic tee. But it would be an adorable outfit to wear out to drinks with your girlfriends or a casual date night with your special someone.

Looking for something a little fancier? You could pair this same skirt with a cute pair of simple pumps, and maybe a simple sweater or blouse. Not feeling this skirt? There are tons of really cute and different options. Something a little more retro with midi length suede fringe, or something with color and just a teeny fringe detail? The options are endless! Just shop them in the links below, just keep scrolling.

And let’s not forget about the accessories! Fringe tassel earrings have been back for a few seasons now, but bags and shoes are hopping right on board too. Which is so much fun! I love the texture that some of the shoes below have with the addition of fringe, whether there’s a little or the whole shoe!

So whether you want to jump on in with a fringe biker jacket, or slowly transition into the trend with some accessories, you have plenty of options! And some really REALLY good ones in the links below.

Happy shopping!

SPRING IN POLKA DOTS

This is one of the biggest spring trends this year!

Polka dots are everywhere! Adorable tops, flirty skirts, cute pants, but my favorite? The jumpsuits! I have always loved a great jumpsuit but there is something so feminine and cute about a polka dot jumpsuit.

Spring is the perfect time of year for this style, too! A great way to fancy up your outfit, and so easy to pop a coat over to keep warm on those not-so-springy days. And let’s be honest. Right now my legs are so pale I’d rather not expose anyone to seeing that in a skirt :-O

The cutest thing about this jumpsuit is that the polka dots are actually little hearts! So cute! And the t-shirt detail is perfect for spring too. Just casual enough it could be perfect for a girlfriend brunch, but also great with pumps for a fun date night, too.

I paired it with my go-to pair of white Sam Edelman pumps because… well… they go with everything. I can’t tell you how many times I have worn these heels! I love them for spring and summer too because sometimes the black pumps are just too heavy. I like keeping the colors light and fresh during the warmer months and these heels are the perfect way to do that. Whether it’s with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt or a jumpsuit like this one! So many options.

There are so many adorable jumpsuits out there that are hitting the mark on this polka dot trend. Different size dots, color, fit of the jumpsuit, so many adorable options for this season! Shop them below!!

TRENDING: VELVET

A trend that reaches all areas of fashion.

Whether you want to ease into it with accessories, jump right in with a jacket, or mix and match with some cute velvet leggings, you definitely have your choice when it comes to how you execute this trend. Before this season, if someone mentioned velvet, I would think of a bad 90’s spaghetti strap dress. But now, it is turning into one of my favorite ways to add texture and dimension to an outfit.

It’s perfect for this time of year and a great way to make an outfit a little fancier for a holiday party. The colors are rich, and the fabrics are warmer for those chillier nights you have to venture out.

When I first received these pants from Anthropologie, I saw the flare and thought they were going to be too funky. Then I tried them on and fell in love with the shape. Between the silky velvet texture and the flare of the leg they are super flattering! Plus the subtly pinstripe texture gives it an extra “cool” vibe.

KML-1-1-137.jpg

I paired it with my favorite funky booties and winter white sweater to keep the outfit from getting too dark. It’s best to keep the other patterns and textures fairly simple in a outfit including velvet. You don’t want to overwhelm the look  by adding too much. And it’s nice to accentuate the cool velvet detail.

This sweater below is a fun way to make a sweatshirt more than just a post-gym accessory. The velvet fabric plus the crinkled texture to it really elevates the dimensions as well. It has a pattern without technically having a pattern 🙂 see what I did there?

KML-1-1-114.jpg

This could be really cute in a super casual outfit with black leggings or light girlfriend jeans and chucks. The options are endless with this sweater!

But I saved the best for last. I came across these pants by accident, if you can believe it! I was running into Anthropologie on a mission for my mom when I saw these gems hanging in the window. I’m pretty sure I totally forgot what I was supposed to be doing there in the first place, and honed my priorities in on these joggers.

Now, I’m a sucker for joggers, so that was hit number one for me. But then when I tried them on and the inside felt like fleece? Oh man, I was down for the count. Sometimes when something has sequins you can feel that rough texture through the inside of the garment. These joggers? Not a chance! They’re beyond comfortable

KML-1-1-202.jpg

You’re probably wondering what these pants are doing here, when this post is about velvet. I’m getting there, I promise!

Take a closer look at the detail of these pants. Go on, really get in there. I’m about to blow your mind. The design of the sequin pattern is a camo print alternating camo and velvet. I know! Now, I know that you can’t totally see the velvet and you might even wear them a few times and not even notice yourself. But when you do, you notice how the velvet totally compliments the sequins and makes the pants seasonal.

I mean, do I hear NYE outfit?

KML-1-1-204.jpg

Brands these days are doing an amazing job giving you plenty of options when it comes to this trend. I even recently purchased these velvet tank tops from Abercrombie and I can’t wait to try them out. They’re an awesome and inexpensive way to try out the texture of velvet and the trend without being too aggressive about it. And I think the burgundy color is ON POINT for a holiday party.

Take a closer look at these pieces below and shop some of my favorite velvet items featured in this article below. If you want to be the hit of the holidays, I suggest you shop the link 😉

TRENDING: EMBROIDERY

Welcome to the first of the trending series of the season!

There are a few trends this season that are so prevalent, and so fantastic that I had to dedicate a post to each of them! Sometimes the ever-changing styles can be overwhelming. And sometimes a trend comes and goes before you ever realize it was in style! Well these are three that you’ll not only notice, but you’ll want to take part in

KML-1-1-170.jpg

If you had told me a year ago that you would be seeing embroidery making a comeback, I would have brushed it off as a trend that I would want no part of. Who would have thought that what, at times, is a clothing detail used for bad holiday sweaters and overdone 90’s pieces would come back so strong, and so stylish?? As you can tell, not me!

This fall you are seeing it everywhere! Sweaters, pants, jackets, SHOES, oh my! Now, I have talked about versatile pieces in the past. But these, aren’t exactly that. Sure they are amazing for the fall / winter season and a great way to amp your outfit, but most of these pieces may not be super seasonal-friendly. Meaning, most of these pieces you probably won’t be able to wear come spring-time. Now, jeans with a little detail? Totally! This jacket featured above? Uhhh, yeah! But most of the pieces you see out there, the sweaters, the dresses, and definitely the shoes, are pieces that you’ll want to keep in the colder months.

KML-1-1-90.jpg

But either way, they are pieces that you’ll wear the tail off of while you can! And my favorite part about this trend is that it is making otherwise simple styles exciting and fun! Let’s get real, who has a million pair of plain jeans in their closet? Y’all are definitely raising your hands. Don’t you sometimes wish there was one or two pairs in that crowd that stood out from the rest? That made your jeans and a tee, or sweater, outfit just a little bit more fun?

Ta da!

KML-1-1-279.jpg

There are so many different styles out there that I beg of you to check out. Anthropologie, Free People, and Revolve have some doozies. Looking for something super affordable? Chic Wish has some good options as well.

Definitely keep a look out on Instagram for more pictures on some pieces that I have acquired over the past few weeks on this trend. You’ll probably find a few that you think would look good in your closet 🙂

The pieces I’ve been drawn to are mostly on the low-key side of embroidery. Nothing too overdone, too covered in florals, and pieces that have the hits of decor that are noticeable but not overwhelming. If you’re looking for something that will stand out? A statement piece? There are plenty of dresses out there just waiting for you! This shirtdress is a great casual way to jump into the trend, and one that will work great come spring!

KML-1-1-230.jpg

The detail on the back of this dress is stunning! You’ll want to stare at it before wearing it. And if you’re lucky enough to live somewhere where it’s warm throughout the holiday season, this piece would be a perfect get for you! And a piece that you could wear all year round.

Have I sold you yet?

If not, check out a few of the looks that I put together based on these new trends. This outfit from Anthropologie is an amazing one for the weekend. Meeting a fun group for brunch? Throw this on and you’ll slay the last outfit you wore to brunch… which was probably yoga leggings! I paired this look with a killer pair of white booties for a funky feel and loved it. You could easily wear it with chucks, or even nude heels for a different feel.

One of my favorite pieces that I’m so glad has been so popular this year is the jean skirt. And this one is a doozy! Sometimes jean skirts are heavy and stiff, making them more uncomfortable than you’d like to be when you’re wearing denim. But this skirt from Abercrombie is a soft denim and beyond flattering in the cut. Obviously a destroyed denim, but it doesn’t hug around the thighs, which is nice for someone shaped like me 😀

The embroidery is great on a piece like this because you can wear it with something casual like a hoody and chucks and not feel too much like a little kid. It elevates the style and makes gives it that feminine kick you’ve been looking for!
