MY FALL CAPSULE WARDROBE

I want pieces that can make an impact. That can last from year to year, season to season, through several outfits and moods! And fall is my favorite time of year to do that because these impactful pieces can be so versatile! One sweater can go super far in a wardrobe and that statement coat you have? Styling it up and down is a great way to finish what might otherwise be considered a “boring” look! Unfortunately I don’t think it will feel like Fall here until closer to November, so if you live somewhere cooler, I’ll live vicariously through you for a while.

First up? The sweaters.

Everyone needs a light crewneck sweater, in several colors. Honestly it is by far the best piece that you can have in a capsule wardrobe because not only can you wear them throughout fall, dressed up and down, and with leggings, but they are great to layer as it gets into winter too. So your Fall wardrobe overlaps with the Winter, and you have yourself an efficient closet.

Not done yet! Sweater jackets + cardigans.

A long heavy cardigan is probably my most-worn style in the Fall/Winter. It is easy to wear as a jacket, or by itself. Great to wear on those days when it gets too warm mid-day and you can stick with your tee until it cools down again. Plus, they go great with little booties, tall boots, OTK, and sneakers!

But I do think that I love sweater jackets more. They are the perfect solution for when you want to look a little classier, a little nicer, maybe even more professional, but still stay super comfortable.

SWEATER JACKETS

Oh my boots.

I gotta tell you, I probably have two pairs of booties and they are in heavy rotation during the Fall months. I am not big into tall boots because I think that, unless done with a blazer and kind of a “Ralph Lauren” look, it can be a little much. I think that booties are the more mature and classic choice for fall outfits. So that’s what I’ll share here. To have a true capsule wardrobe all you need is one pair of brown and black at a good height. And by that I mean a bit of a heel so that it can pass for a little nicer but not high enough that you couldn’t do them running errands without feeling bizarre.

Bodysuits.

I don’t feel like this is talked about enough in regards to capsule wardrobes. But I feel like over the past few years one of the most worn and needed item in my closet has been quality and comfortable bodysuits. And a variety of them. Especially in the Fall when you can layer a light sweater or sweater jacket, or maybe just a light jacket, having a variety of comfortable bodysuits are key to having a versatile closet. I personally love Yummie because they offer several rows of snaps, and as someone who is tall, with a long torso, that is crucial to comfort. Abercrombie also has some amazingly comfortable long sleeves that are great with pretty much everything!

Now a few other fun things

Here are a few other styles that I have found lately that I think are adorable and great pieces to have in your closet. They’re great classic styles so aren’t too trendy to not be considered classic enough to stand the test of time, as well as potential to transcend seasons.
